Tourist guide to Australia

Traveling around Australia

Australia is very big. The only practical way to move between most cities and major sight seeing spots, such as Uluru (Ayre's rock) is to fly. There are several budget airlines, that facilitate this, but some airlines, particularly Qantas, have a monopoly on certain Australian tourist routes.

Australia and Japanese

Australia is a favourite place for the Japanese tourists, and has many residents of Japanese birth. Because of this, many tourist areas, such as Cairns, are as likely to have signs in Japanese as they are to have them in English. Most restaurants and hotels in Cairns have at least one Japanese member of staff.

Many Australian schools teach Japanese as a second language as part of the regular curriculum.

For somebody studying Japanese, the Australian city of Cairns can provide a excellent Japanese language immersion experience, without actually going to Japan.
